Business Honors Requirements

To graduate with the Business Honors designation, students must complete the following:

Complete one required honors course and three other honors designated business core courses.

Honors workshop series

Complete the series of three workshops.

Applied learning or scholarly activity

Engage in at least one significant applied learning or scholarly activity per academic year* and complete reflection. Requires at least 60 hours of engagement.

Community engagement

Earn at least two community engagement points per academic year.* At least one of the points must be earned within the Lundquist College. Requires at least 40 hours of engagement.

GPA

Earn a GPA of at least 3.2 each term following admission to the program.

*An academic year is defined as September 16–September 15 (e.g. 9/16/24–9/15/25) for purposes of this requirement.


Honors Courses

Complete one required honors course and three other honors designated business core courses.

  • Required course: BA 453H
  • At least three of the following current offerings:
    • BA 308H
    • FIN 311H
    • FIN 316H
    • MGMT 311H
    • MKTG 311H

Honors Workshop Series

Complete the series of three workshops.

Workshops will be offered throughout the academic year and must be taken in sequence. The initial workshop will be offered between May 6 and May 17, 2024.

  • Workshop 1, Root: Establish a strong foundation and connections within the Business Honors Program.
  • Workshop 2, Grow: Develop resilience and a growth mindset, and learn to embrace challenges.
  • Workshop 3, Flourish: Develop leadership identity, personal values, and the ability to articulate one's story and aspirations.

Applied Learning and Scholarly Activities

Engage in at least one significant applied learning or scholarly activity per academic year and complete a reflection. A significant experience should include at least 60 hours of engagement.

This requirement presents students with the opportunity for practical application of theories and concepts learned through major coursework. Examples include:

  • Participation in such opportunities on campus as the Oregon Consulting Group, UO Investment Group, Oregon Innovation Challenge, Oregon Accelerator, Professional Edge, or serving as a peer coach in the Financial Wellness Program
  • Internships (paid or unpaid)
  • Original research supervised by faculty, including Clark Honors College theses

The intent is for these experiences to align with a student's particular interests, and the requirement is designed to allow for flexibility. The primary criteria for an experience to satisfy this requirement is that a student can demonstrate that they applied theories or concepts learned through their major coursework during the experience.


Community Engagement

Earn at least two community engagement points per academic year. At least one of the points must be earned within the Lundquist College.

Earning community engagement points is an opportunity to develop networking, leadership, and other professional skills while cultivating a sense of purpose, passion, and belonging. Some example activities are provided below, but students should determine which types of community engagement would be most valuable to them. The intent is for the engagement to align with a student's personal or professional goals and the requirement is designed to allow for flexibility. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Participation in student clubs or other campus activities (e.g. ASUO, peer guides, etc.)
  • Participation in Business Honors community events
  • Participation in Professional Edge workshops
  • Community service

A community engagement point requires at least 40 hours of engagement:

  • Students cannot earn more than one community engagement point per activity. For example, 50 hours of engagement with a single student club would count as one engagement point.
  • Activities can be combined to meet 40-hour requirement. For example, 12 hours of Professional Edge workshops and eight hours of Business Honors community events would count as one engagement point.
