Classroom Controls Overview

The Crestron Touch Panel controls the audio-visual equipment in Lillis classrooms. If the screen is dark, the Crestron may be in sleep mode. Touch the center of the screen to wake it up.

The projection screen may be hidden by a blackboard, slide the blackboard to one side to expose the projection screen. The projection screen is NOT a whiteboard. DO NOT write on it with anything.

The lighting controls are located on the side of the podium.

Directions and Instructions for Operating Classroom Equipment

Resident Computer

  1. Select "Projector" on the Creston panel (top left side of the frame).
  2. Turn the projector on by pressing "Projector On" on the Crestron screen.
  3. Select data mode by pressing "Data" button (if present) on the Crestron screen.
  4. Select the resident computer data source by pressing "Resident Computer" on the Crestron screen.
  5. Turn on the Resident PC and the monitor (lower right button) and adjust the height, accordingly.

Laptop Computer

  1. Select "Projector" on the Creston panel (top left side of the frame).
  2. Turn the projector on by pressing "Projector On" on the Crestron screen.
  3. Select data mode by pressing "Data" (if present) on the Crestron screen.
  4. Select the laptop computer data source by pressing "Laptop Computer" on the Crestron screen.
  5. Turn on the laptop and connect it to the external VGA connection (and audio cable) on the side of the podium.

Document Camera

  1. Select "Projector" on the Creston panel (top left side of the frame).
  2. Turn the projector on by pressing "Projector On" on the Crestron screen.
  3. Select data mode by pressing "Data" (if present) on the Crestron screen. 
  4. Select "Document Camera" on the Crestron screen. There are two models of documents cameras in Lillis. The Samsung models are being replaced with the Avermedia cameras.
    • Samsung: Turn on the Document Camera using the power button on the far left side of the Document Camera's front panel. Raise the camera head and lights to the upright position if they are not already in the upright position. You will also need to turn on the camera's lights to match the type of document you are using. The "Lights" button cycles the camera's lights between overhead, underneath, and off.
    • Avermedia: Power button is on the right side. The center light on the top should be green. If not, press Camera / PC button (upper right) on the Control Panel.

DVD

  1. Select "Projector" on the Creston panel (top left side of the frame).
  2. Turn the projector on by pressing "Projector On" on the Crestron screen.
  3. Select video mode by pressing "Video" on the Crestron screen.
  4. Select the DVD video controls on the Crestron panel by pressing the "DVD" button to the left of the screen. The DVD player can be stopped, started, and paused as needed from the Crestron panel.

    Note: The video program can be monitored on the Crestron panel at any time by pressing the "Monitor" button to the left of the screen.

VCR/VHS

VHS players are being phrased out and are only left in rooms that have cable TV.

  1. Select "Projector" on the Creston panel (top left side of the frame).
  2. Turn the projector on by pressing "Projector On" on the Crestron screen.
  3. Select video mode by pressing "Video" on the Crestron screen.
  4. Select the VCR video controls on the Crestron panel by pressing the "VCR" button to the left of the screen. The VCR can be stopped, started, and paused as needed from the Crestron panel.

    Note: The video program can be monitored on the Crestron panel at any time by pressing the "Monitor" button to the left of the screen.

Campus Cable

The VCR is connected to campus cable and acts as the tuner.

  1. Select "Projector" on the Creston panel (top left side of the frame).
  2. Turn the projector on by pressing "Projector On" on the Crestron screen.
  3. Select video mode by pressing "Video" on the Crestron screen.
  4. Select the VCR video controls on the Crestron panel by pressing the "VCR" button to the left of the screen. The cable channels can be selected using  "Chan up" and "Chan Down" on the Crestron screen. Please return to channel 2 when you are done.  

    Note: The video program can be monitored on the Crestron panel at any time by pressing the "Monitor" button to the left of the screen.

AUX Video

  1. Select "Projector" on the Creston panel (top left side of the frame).
  2. Turn the projector on by pressing "Projector On" on the Crestron screen.
  3. Select video mode by pressing "Video" on the Crestron screen.
  4. Select the AUX video signal on the Crestron panel by pressing the "AUX" button to the left of the screen. Aux inputs for video and sound are located on the side of the podium

    Note: The video program can be monitored on the Crestron panel at any time by pressing the "Monitor" button to the left of the screen.

Audio Volume Controls

The audio volume is controlled by 3 buttons to the right of the Crestron screen. "Vol Up" raises the volume. "Vol Dn" lowers the volume. The system volume status is displayed on the main screen which can be seen by pressing the "Projector" button to the left of the Crestron screen. "Mute" temporarily turns off the audio. A screen icon labeled MUTE turns on to indicate that the sound has been muted.

Lighting Presets

The lights are controlled using two control panels: Lighting Presets and Lighting Zone Controls. Room light levels are also affected by the shades on the windows. Lighting Presets also control the shade levels. The Presets panel has four lighting configurations that are predefined: Lecture 1, Lecture 2, Proj. 1, and Proj. 2. The preset labeled "Proj. 2" is typically the best for using the AV equipment. The Lighting Zone Controls panel will allow you to adjust the lights to your own liking. Select a zone by pressing the button for the zone and then adjust by pressing the up or down arrows at the bottom of the Lighting Zone Control. The shades may be controlled in a similar fashion by pressing one of the presets: Open, Preset 1, Preset 2, Preset 3, or Closed. The shades can be manually adjusted using the up or down arrows at the bottom of the Shade Control.

Shutting Down When You Are Done

Pressing the "All Off" button on the right of the Crestron panel turns off the projector, VCR, DVD and the audio amplifiers. You will need to turn off the computer, the Star Panel and the Document Camera manually.
