To attract and retain more minority students to populate the CEO Network, the college’s undergraduate programs office designed and modeled Building Business Leaders (BBL), a first-year program with two-credits of academic requirement and a campus housing component. Over the past five years, it has enrolled 192 students, propelling the CEO Network to become the most widely-recognized organization of diverse exceptional leaders for the UO campus. Students participating in the CEO Network must apply to participate in the BBL.
An initiative spearheaded by the college's undergraduate advising office, the BBL program connects underrepresented minority students to the Lundquist College of Business, engages underrepresented minority students in an exciting experience while in the pre-business program, and open doors to career opportunities in business and accounting fields.
Although BBL is open to all students intending to complete an accounting or business administration degree at the University of Oregon, the purpose of the cohort is to support underrepresented minority students through the completion of the pre-business curriculum by building a small learning community that fosters collaboration, leadership, teamwork, and academic excellence.
