Can students without an accounting background apply?
No. To apply, you must have an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Business with a concentration in Accounting.
What is the difference between a MAcc and an MS in Accounting?
A Master of Accounting (MAcc) is focused on technical accounting and CPA exam preparation, designed for students with an undergraduate accounting background. An MS in Accounting offers a broader curriculum and allows students without an undergraduate accounting degree to catch up on prerequisites.
How long is the MAcc program, and when can I start?
The MAcc is a 10-month, 46-credit program. Most students begin in the fall, though some start in winter or spring terms. Review the application deadlines for your preferred start term.
Is funding available for MAcc students?
Yes. The School of Accounting awards multiple scholarships between $1,000 and $10,000 that you can be considered for through a single application, and Graduate Employee positions offering a tuition waiver are available, along with federal aid.
Does the degree qualify me to sit for the CPA exam in Oregon?
Yes, the MAcc is designed to help you meet Oregon’s requirement of 36 upper division credits in Accounting. Holding a master’s degree also places you on the one-year-work-experience licensure pathway.
Can I start my CPA exams while in the program?
Yes. Many students start (and complete!) their exams while in the program. The MAcc curriculum is designed to help you prepare to sit for the CPA exams.
Can I specialize my MAcc?
Yes. You can specialize in tax, audit and financial reporting, or data analytics. Each specialization is earned by a combination of one core course and electives.
Is the MAcc STEM certified?
Our Master of Accounting program is STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) certified, so international graduates on an F-1 visa will be eligible to work in the United States for up to 36 months after graduation instead of the standard 12-month optional practical training (OPT) period.
Where do MAcc students work after graduation?
Master of Accounting graduates are recruited by Big Four and leading regional firms. Top employers recruit our graduates including Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG, PwC, Apercen Partners LLC, Baker Tilly, and many more. For the last 2 years, 100% of graduates land jobs within 3 months of graduation in public accounting firms, private companies, and government agencies.
