The Master of Science in Management (MSM) is a full-time, 10-month graduate program taught in person at the University of Oregon’s Eugene campus. Ideal for those with non-business bachelor’s degrees, the MSM builds core business leadership skills across finance, marketing, strategy, and operations. No prior work experience is required to apply.

Graduates who complete the MSM and gain two years of work experience will be eligible for UO’s 15-month Accelerated MBA program

Requirements and Courses

The MSM program is designed to prepare students to lead in the workplace by teaching business fundamentals and emphasizing professional development. Sample master’s in management courses include:

  • Corporate Finance and Valuation

Hands-On Learning

The MS in Management program offers several experiential learning opportunities, including:  

  • A guest speaker series 
  • Study tours 
  • Student clubs and associations 
     

In the first term, students have the opportunity to connect with peers, engage with industry professionals, and begin to see themselves as leaders through BA 691: Professional Development for Emerging Managers, a core course that sets the tone for the entire program.

Tuition, Scholarships, and Funding

Estimated 2026–27 tuition is $33,990 per year for Oregon residents and $40,170 per year for non-residents, plus graduate student fees and a one-time matriculation fee.
Merit-based scholarships for varying amounts are available to incoming students based on their overall application. UO also awards more than one million dollars in scholarships every year to international students. Beyond these, students can also apply for federal aid.    

How to Apply

Applications are reviewed holistically and include a resume, statement of purpose, and transcripts. GMAT or GRE scores are optional. Qualified UO undergraduates can enter through the 3+1 Management Scholars pathway

Review the complete application checklist and deadlines, as scholarship funds are subject to availability. Once your application is complete, the master’s in management admissions process typically takes about 30-45 days.

Emily Moore

Academic Director | Assistant Teaching Professor of Management

Emily Moore teaches leadership, communication, sustainable business, and cross-cultural negotiation, and her research focuses on high-performing teams, conflict resolution, and more. Moore won the Lundquist College's Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2023–24. She also brings a practitioner's perspective to the classroom as a professional who owns and operates medical and surgical centers.

What can I do with a Master of Science in Management?

Graduates move into entry-level management, analyst, and coordinator roles across finance, marketing, operations, and consulting. The program's focus on business fundamentals and professional development prepares students from any undergraduate background to step into these roles in just 10 months.

How do the MSM and an MBA differ?

The MSM is a 10-month degree focused on core business skills for individuals with a non-business bachelor’s degree who have little or no work experience. An MBA is designed for professionals with several years of experience and emphasizes advanced leadership. MSM graduates who later gain two years of work experience become eligible for the accelerated Oregon MBA.

What is the 3+1 Management Scholars pathway?

Qualified University of Oregon undergraduates can begin the MSM in their fourth year through the 3+1 Management Scholars program, earning both a bachelor's degree and the MSM in four years.
