Innovation and Entrepreneurship Courses

The innovation and entrepreneurship specialization combines academic and experiential learning components to provide an entrepreneurial skill set to deploy immediately upon graduation.

Whether your interest resides in founding an enterprise, working in an entrepreneurial culture, or joining a more established organization to focus on innovation, our program will prepare you to immediately contribute and lead.

Specialization Requirements

To have the innovation and entrepreneurship specialization notated on their transcripts, students must take the following courses:

MBA students only: The required Oregon MBA core courses of the Oregon MBA:

  • 15 required core courses for full-time MBA students
  • 7 required core courses for accelerated MBA students
  • The specific courses required for the specialization (13 credits total)
  • Electives of their own choosing from a wide range available in the Lundquist College of Business, as well as from other colleges and departments across the University of Oregon (3 credits minimum)

Specialization Courses

Required Courses

To earn the innovation and entrepreneurship specialization on their transcripts, students must take the required specialization core courses in the following order (starting in winter term):

  • MGMT 635: Opportunity Recognition OR BIOE 610: Technology Entrepreneurship/Tech Ventures (3 credits, take in first winter term)
  • MGMT 625: New Venture Planning (3 credits, take in first spring term)
  • MGMT 645: New Venture Scaling (3 credits, take in second fall term)
  • MGMT 655: New Venture Execution (4 credits, take in second winter term)*

*MGMT 655 can be taken a second time in spring and would count as a general elective toward the MBA degree (but would not count as a specialization elective).

Students must take a minimum of 3 credits worth of specialization electives:
