Alumni in the News: Sam Blackman

Elemental Technologies, founded by Sam Blackman (Oregon Executive MBA class 22), is on board to help stream the 2014 Winter Olympics. More than 100 countries will be using Elemental's state-of-the-art 4K HEVC technology. This will be the second time Elemental Technologies has been involved with the Olympics. In 2012, the company successfully streamed the London Olympic games to more than fifty countries.

In December, Blackman spoke at the Oregon Business Plan summit on the challenges and advantages of startups in Oregon. He credited the help of companies like Pixelworks in helping his own company grow, and he hopes to one day help others found their own companies in turn. Blackman founded Elemental Technologies, one of Portland's fastest-growing and most successful startups, seven years ago. Portland Business journal reports that in 2013 the company grew from seventy-five to 101 employees and is moving to a larger office just around the corner from their current location.
