Looking for Big Ideas
The University of Oregon’s signature, cross-campus business competition, the Provost’s Innovation Challenge, will take place virtually on March 10.
Now in its sixth year, the competition provides students of all majors—both undergraduate and graduate students—with the opportunity to compete for a cash prize pool of $10,000 to be used to advance their venture development.
Over the course of the last six weeks, each team has worked on their business model development under the guidance of expert mentors. On March 3, the teams faced off during a virtual “pitch-off,” and the top teams were selected to advance to the March 10 finals, where they will be evaluated by the following judges:
- Michael Jones ’97, founder and CEO, Science Inc.
- Shane Johnson ’89, managing codirector, Coast 2 Crest Fund
- Ray Kato, MBA ’85, former financial director, SpaceX
- Betsy McLaughlin, former CEO, Hot Topic (currently serving on multiple boards in the retail and restaurant sectors)
The competition also serves to select the two student teams who will represent the university at the statewide Invent Oregon competition.
All are welcome to join virtually on March 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and watch the finalists present their business ideas.
