MBA in NFL: David Paulson

It's been a pretty good year for former Duck tight end David Paulson, MBA '12. There was the 2012 Rose Bowl win, and the fact that he succeeded in maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout the whirlwind football season. Getting drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers this spring--well, that was pretty special, too. What motivated Paulson to spend his final year at the UO enrolled in the Lundquist College's challenging accelerated MBA program? "I knew I wanted to do something involved with sports and I knew that the Warsaw Center was a great place to learn about the industry and make some great connections along the way," said Paulson, who also obtained his undergraduate business degree from the college. A single-minded approach to the task at hand was key to success, Paulson explained: "When I was at football, I needed to be totally focused on football and not worried about a test coming up--and the same went for my schoolwork." As it turns out, Paulson is not the only student in the Oregon MBA program balancing high-level athletics with a rigorous course load. The current MBA cohorts include UO golfer Jack Dukeminier, MBA '12, and Duck offensive lineman Ramsen Golpashin, MBA '12.
