After graduating from the University of Oregon, Jeff Attila "11 secured a position with adidas Global Basketball as a sports marketing coordinator and quickly rose through the ranks to become a digital marketing manager at the European sportswear manufacturer's Portland headquarters. He chatted with Warsaw Sports Marketing Center director Whitney Wagoner about what he's up to now.
Describe your current position and role.
As a digital marketing manager for adidas Global Basketball, I work with our integrated brand marketing team to bring campaigns to life. My role focuses on the content and strategy we use to tell our stories on social media.
How has your Warsaw Center experience shaped your career?
My time at the Warsaw Center was the most instrumental vehicle in shaping my career. The experiential learning opportunities at the center are unmatched, and I was able to strengthen my leadership skills in the real world while I was still a student. Additionally, many of those I first met as classmates are now people I consider family, and that's more important to me than anything.
What key business trends are you following?
I make sure to stay current with the footwear and apparel industry as a whole. I've always been obsessed with sneakers and fashion, so working in it every day makes it even more fun to follow the business.
What social media platform is your favorite for personal use and what is the best platform for your business purposes?
It changes depending on the day. If I had to pick one for personal use, I'd go with Twitter. It's the best for communicating with my friends all over the country, and it also makes me laugh the most.
At the moment, Instagram is my favorite for business use because it's a very visual platform. It's the best way to showcase our product. I'm lucky enough to work with some of the world's most talented photographers in order to tell our stories. I'm also a big fan of the new features Instagram has added, like stories and live video.
When I'm in China, WeChat is an essential tool, and I'll be excited if it ever becomes mainstream here in the United States.
What do you miss most about Eugene?
Lillis, the running trails, Mac Court, the rec center, and Track Town Pizza.
