Alumna Profile Merryn Roberts Huntley

Alumni Stories: Merryn Roberts Huntley

Known during her time at Oregon as a “die-hard Nike fan,” Merryn Roberts-Huntley, MBA ’06, came to the University of Oregon with four years of sports business experience and was keen to take her career to the next level through the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center’s impressive industry connections.

Roberts-Huntley was able to exercise her ambition as a Warsaw Center graduate employee and began business consulting in her limited free time. She was goal-oriented and purposeful in her networking and career decisions and ultimately landed her dream job at Nike after graduation. She spent four years with Nike in marketing—managing business in the United States, Canada, and Asia—including working on the Olympic Games.

After working for ten years as a full-time employee and consultant in Canada and the U.S. for global brands such as Nike, Salmon Sports, adidas, and Columbia Sportswear, Roberts-Huntley decided to pursue her next dream of launching her own sports marketing consulting firm in Portland, Oregon. FIXX Consulting helps sports-focused companies with sports marketing and business development challenges. The company boasts an impressive client roster including Nike, Cliff Bar, and Bleacher Report.

In addition to her consulting firm, Roberts-Huntley is a founding team member of the Lundquist College’s Master in Sports Product Management program based in Portland. She is a former undergraduate business instructor (Introduction to Sports Business), and a current master’s level marketing strategy instructor for the master in Sports Product Management program. Merryn instructs a workshop each fall, “Marketing Yourself," as well as a term-long Marketing Strategy course each spring.

Huntley’s experience consulting, coupled with her passion for teaching and helping students, inspired her next venture—a second company, Made To Hire.

Started in 2017, Made To Hire is a career coaching firm that helps young professionals move from “looking good on paper” to actually getting the career they want. Students and young professionals may sign up for an online course, a city workshop, a campus workshop, and more on the website, which also includes a blog written by Merryn. Outside of work, Roberts-Huntley and her husband enjoy an active life with their three children and two dogs.

Roberts-Huntley feels strongly about the role UO played in her career saying, “I’m incredibly grateful for the learnings, relationships, and experiences I gained through the MBA program. I wouldn’t be where I am today without it.”
