Thank you Rippeys!
We are delighted to announce the Cameron Center Finance and Securities Analysis Professor of Practice position has been funded thanks to a generous gift from Shirley "53 and James Rippey "53.
“As we build on the success of our Avamere Professor of Practice Michael Crooke, we look to enhance our offerings to include professors of practice for each of our four centers of excellence," said Lundquist College of Business Dean Kees de Kluyver. “This is an auspicious next step, and we are incredibly thankful for the Rippeys' dedication to bolstering the academy with unmatched, real-world talent."
The Lundquist College spearheaded the creation of this type of professorship, which brings accomplished, high-profile industry, government, or academic leaders to campus. The classification is now recognized by the State of Oregon for use in all of its universities. Avamere Professor of Practice Michael Crooke was the first such appointment at the University of Oregon and continues to serve in the position at our Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship. A former CEO of Patagonia and Revolution Living, Crooke tapped his network to recruit speakers to share their expertise and illustrate core concepts in his Oregon Advanced Strategy course. It has been extremely well received by both students and industry leaders.
Along with their generous gift in support of a professor of practice, the Rippeys also established the James F. and Shirley J. Rippey Graduate Fellowship Fund, providing support for MBA students in perpetuity.
We seek to fill the professor of practice role at the Cameron Center for Finance and Securities Analysis with someone of similar acumen. The college plans to initiate the candidate search beginning in fall 2015.
