When sports and sustainability come together, the potential for change is tremendous. This was the thinking that inspired undergraduates Weston Cooper and James Walton to work with national clean energy nonprofit Focus the Nation to plan and execute the UO's first-ever Sports and Sustainability Summit.

Between the recent $1 billion sale of Instagram and Facebook's imminent IPO, social media is center stage these days. Aiming to grab some of the spotlight is Stublisher, a photo- and video-sharing web service launched this April by undergrads Kyle Bañuelos and Ryan Jesenik, and their cofounder and CTO, Zachary Collins, a high-schooler with several previous ventures to his name.

Earth Day at the Lillis Business Complex was the Lundquist College's contribution to the UO's campus-wide Earth Week celebration. Organized by UO Net Impact members and MBA candidates from the Center for Sustainable Business Practices (CSBP), the jam-packed Thursday was a runaway success.

Ever wonder where the metals in your cell phone came from? What about your laptop? MBA students in Lundquist Professor of Sustainable Management Michael Russo's course in Sustainable Business Development took on the challenge of tracking some of these down, in a real-life consulting project suggested by electronics giant Hewlett-Packard.

We are pleased to announce that on April 9, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) fully reaccredited the Lundquist College of Business through 2017. With only 649 institutions out of 12,600 holding the recognition, this puts us in the top 5 percent of business schools worldwide--no mean feat in itself.

Sixteen teams of entrepreneurially minded graduate students came to Portland, Oregon, to test their mettle in the University of Oregon's New Venture Championship.

We are one of only 177 business schools that are accredited in both business and accounting. This elite status is due in no small part to our exceptional Department of Accounting.

Billing itself as "the world's largest crowd-sourcing platform" and dedicated to tackling issues related to global poverty, the Hult Global Case Challenge is a forum that challenges students from all over the world to find ways to do business that make the world a better place. For the first time ever, a team from the Oregon MBA was one of the 300 chosen from more than 4,000 applicants to compete in this year's competition.

Planned and executed from start to finish by its student members, the UO American Marketing Association's annual Main Event provides an opportunity for students and local business professionals to spend an evening meeting and networking. Loaded with glitz and glamor--not to mention a truly extraordinary cake centerpiece--this year's event more than lived up to its "Mad Men + Mocktinis" theme.

"Having entrepreneurs on campus is great, because we actually get to see what we've learned in the classroom being applied in the real world," said Niloo Mirani, describing how she and her fellow MBA candidates benefited from their time with Rick Miller, the founder and CEO of the Avamere Family of Companies, one of the Pacific Northwest's largest senior care and housing providers.

Around 170 Lundquist College alums and friends joined Dean Kees de Kluyver and Warsaw Sports Marketing Center director Paul Swangard at Southern California's Indian Wells Tennis Garden for the Warsaw-Thurston Award Gala--and a weekend of tennis-centric fun. Now in its second year, the annual award honors the memories of Jim Warsaw and Annalee Thurston by recognizing the achievements of an individual who has advanced opportunities for women in the business of sport.

For more than a decade, volunteers from the Lundquist College's accounting fraternity Beta Alpha Psi have been making tax time a little easier for Eugene-area residents, by providing free preparation of simple federal and state tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, an initiative of the Internal Revenue Service. To volunteer, students must attend at least one basic training session and pass an online exam administered by the Internal Revenue Service.

The general weariness toward taking on more debt in a uncertain economy often prompts prospective MBA students to question if going to graduate school is worth the loans they may incur. It's been quite a winter for Jake Heckathorn, Brian Oehler and Jeff Matthews, the second-year MBA candidates representing technology startup Corrosion Solutions in investment competitions both here and abroad.
