Parmigiani's research involves firm boundary decisions, concurrent sourcing, vertical interfirm relationships, and firm capabilities. Formerly a procurement manager, Parmigiani worked in manufacturing industries for ten years and was certified as a professional purchasing manager (CPM). She was procurement manager for Windfall Products, Inc. (now Metaldyne, Inc.) from 1996–98, where she managed $10 million in purchases of outside secondary operations, assembly components, utilities, and capital equipment for the automotive supplier of powder metal parts. Her background also includes experience as a market analyst and associate for SGL Carbon Corporation from 1987–95, where she conducted product mix analyses and forecasts, developed strategic pricing and positioning recommendations based on market research and industry analyses, created promotional materials, and wrote computer programs to price carbon products.
Parmigiani has received research grants from the Institute for Supply Management and the Sloan Foundation and in 2010 was selected as one of three scholars honored as a Western Academy of Management Ascendant Scholar. She serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Management and the Strategic Management Journal, and her research has been published in the Journal of Management Inquiry, Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings, European Management Review, and the Strategic Management Journal.
