An Open Letter from Faculty to Business Students

Dear Business Students,

When everything in your life seems unsettled and the future looks uncertain, it's nice to think there are people who care about you and want to help you succeed. Certainly, this applies to your parents, relatives, and friends. But it also applies to us, the Lundquist College of Business faculty. We want you to know that we care about you, both as a student and as a person, and we want to help you succeed both academically and in life.

Our highest priority right now is the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff, and their families. We want you to be safe, and we want your family to be safe as well. That's why we've made changes in how we will interact with you over the coming term. But that hasn't changed our desire to teach you—and to help you learn. We all became professors because we love teaching, and we love learning. And we love helping students. That's not going to change just because we're not in the same room with you.

We're working diligently to make sure that the business courses you take in spring term are as good as they can be. Although you will be attending class on a laptop, an iPad, or even a smartphone, we are going to make sure you have the opportunity to learn everything you need to be successful. We take a lot of pride in what we do, and our business program is one of the best in the country. We aren't going to let that slide because we can't all be in the same classroom.

In addition to class time, we will be available remotely for office hours—either one-on-one or with a virtual group of your fellow students. You can still work on group projects or study together with a virtual group of classmates. You can still contact us for advice or help or just to talk—about business or any of your concerns.

Please know that we care about you, and we're going to work as hard as we can in the coming weeks to provide structure for everyone involved during this challenging time. Spring 2020 will be different for us as well as for you. But we're going to get through it together. That's why we're here. That's what Ducks do.
