Commencement activities, including departmental ceremonies, will not be held as in-person events this year. However, the university is working hard on other ways to offer a meaningful experience. Additional details on alternative celebration plans will be released in the coming weeks and updated on the university commencement website. Dates, deadlines, and details listed below will be updated at that time. Regalia and other commencement essentials for photos will be available through The Duck Store at a future date.
The University of Oregon is coordinating with county public health departments, the Oregon Health Authority, and federal health officials to proactively monitor and respond to novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to protect the health and well-being of our campus community. You can find the most current information about the university's preparation and response on the UO's coronavirus webpage.
Any graduate student graduating winter, spring, summer, or fall of 2020 may participate in the June 2020 ceremony. Inform your expected guests with these details as soon as possible; lodging is difficult to find after January 1.
Check this page periodically as it will be updated with additional information as Commencement approaches.
How and when to apply for graduation
There is no charge to attend the commencement ceremony, and no tickets will be required. There is also no limit on the number of guests a graduate may invite. For lodging options, visit Travel Lane County.
Parking and Transportation
Graduates and their guests may park in the Columbia Garage (below the arena, lot 99). The garage will be staffed one hour before the event starts. ADA spots are located inside the parking garage. Additional parking is available at meters around the campus area. Please note that non-metered street parking is limited to two hours, and that vehicles parked beyond two hours are subject to ticketing.
The EmX bus line also runs right next to Matthew Knight Arena. There is no special EmX service related to arena events. Please contact LTD directly for more information at ltd.org or 541-687-5555.
Clear Bag Policy
To enhance public safety and make arena access more efficient, the University of Oregon and the Matthew Knight Arena adopted a clear bag policy. Guests may bring a 12" x 6" x 12" or 1-gallon plastic storage bag. Guests are limited to one clear bag per person, along with a small clutch or purse for privacy.
A professional photographer will be on site. The photographer will take photos before, during, and after the ceremony. A group portrait will be taken before commencement. All graduates must meet in front of the Lillis Business Complex for pictures, IN YOUR REGALIA! Exact shoot time to be announced. At the reception, you can ask the photographer take family pictures, friend groups, or pictures with the Duck. All of these pictures will be available for you and your family to order.
A reception at the Ford Alumni Center (adjacent to Matthew Knight Arena) will immediately follow the ceremony. Heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served.
For family and friends who cannot attend, livestreaming of the event will be available.
