A million-dollar-plus portfolio managed by students. One of the world’s most reputable business competitions. Endowed faculty positions and numerous student scholarships. All these University of Oregon advances and more are due, in part or whole, to the generosity and foresight of the recipients of this year’s UO Pioneer Awards: Gerry Cameron, class of 1961, and Mary and Tim Boyle, class of 1971.

Established in 1979, the annual Pioneer Awards recognize distinguished UO alumni who are pioneers in business, philanthropy, communication, politics, and the arts. The Pioneer Awards are UO’s highest honor.
This year’s pioneers have also generously contributed to the college over the years.
Gerry Cameron’s contributions include support for faculty positions, student scholarships, and the Marilyn C. and Gerry B. Cameron Center for Finance and Securities Analysis, which is housed in the Lundquist College of Business.
Tim and Mary Boyle’s gift to the New Venture Championship at the Lundquist College increased the grand prize purse and expanded the scope of the competition to include high school students. The endowment also allows students in the School of Journalism and Communication create a media program and campaign book for the championship through the school’s Allen Hall Advertising agency—an experience that has helped many students land jobs after graduation.
