Interim Dean to Start September 16

The University of Oregon on Friday named Professor James Terborg interim dean of the Lundquist College of Business, effective September 16 and continuing to June 30, 2016. He will succeed Cornelis “Kees" de Kluyver, who will remain at the college, pursuing research and teaching on a reduced schedule.

Terborg teaches courses on organizational behavior, human resource management, and sports business. He has consulted with Sears, Weyerhaeuser, Coors, and Nike on topics of employee morale, productivity measurement, and employee health promotion. His current research examines management and organizational issues within the context of sports. Terborg has published more than 60 articles and book chapters on leadership, motivation, and employee attitudes.

Previous leadership positions with the University of Oregon include Department of Management chair, director of the Institute of Industrial Relations, academic director of the Oregon Executive MBA program, and associate dean of the Lundquist College of Business. His most recent post was senior associate dean for faculty affairs. He is also a professor emeritus of management at the college.

“It's an exciting time for the Lundquist College and I plan to work with the leadership team to maintain the current momentum," he said. “During this interim period my goals for the college are (1) hire a great dean, (2) successfully complete reaccreditation from AACSB, (3) launch the Sports Product Management Program, (4) continue to raise money to enhance our research and teaching, and (5) make progress in all that we do one step at a time."

Terborg holds a PhD in industrial/organizational psychology from Purdue University. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology at Calvin College and previously served in the role of assistant professor of psychology at the University of Illinois and later at the University of Houston. From 1989 through 2013, Terborg was the Carolyn Chambers Professor of Management at the Lundquist College. He currently is the James H. Warsaw Academic Director of the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center.
