Amanda Pliska "12 has a long history with Nike. After graduating from the University of Oregon, she began her career in the sportswear company's global digital brand sector, and she now works as a brand digital manager. Warsaw Sports Marketing Center director Whitney Wagoner checked in with her to find out what she's working on now.
Describe your current position and role.
Since graduation, I've been working at Nike, Inc. within the brand's digital marketing function.
As the category manager for NikeWomen + Women's Training, I work within the emerging markets geography, which focuses on bringing the brand to life digitally. Emerging markets is an extremely diverse and complex geography. We cover nine territories spanning across Latin and South America, Southeast Asia, India, Mexico, and the Pacific (Australia and New Zealand.) My role is to help strategically shape what brand content appears across our owned Nike digital channels (Nike.com, e-mail, apps, and social media) across the above territories.
Essentially, I send a lot of e-mails across many different time zones.
How has your Warsaw Center experience shaped your professional career?
Warsaw is how I got my start. It was through connections in the Warsaw Sports Business Club that I was given the opportunity to complete my Nike internship, and I have been working here ever since. Also, many of the friends that I made during club meetings continue to be some of my most valued mentors.
What key business trends are you following right now?
For me, it's all about integrated marketplace and omnichannel consumer experience, or how brands can deliver a consistent, fresh message and experience at every touch point, whether it be through a commerce e-mail, in a brick and mortar store, or when you shop via a brand's e-commerce site. How those stories are connected and told in a different way dependent on the channel is something I'm paying close attention to.
What is your favorite social media platform for personal use and what social media platform is best for your business purposes?
Favorite social platform for personal use: Spotify.
Favorite social platform for business purposes: WhatsApp. It's the easiest way to communicate with our partners around the world.
What do you miss most about Eugene?
Spring time in Eugene is magical. While it's an unbearable time for allergies, it's the perfect time of year to enjoy a run around Pre's Trail.
