David Nadbornik

Behind the Scenes of Virtual Education

Virtual education may appear to be a simple blend of software, knowledge, and communication; however, it demands a synchronized orchestra of events to execute flawlessly. The technology lead for the Sports Product Management online program, David Nadbornik, performs it beautifully.

Nadbornik’s passion for producing music led him to discover a career in audiovisual technology at the University of Oregon.

What does it take to manage an online course? It entails aligning several elements, including onboarding and training of facility and students, technology support, pre-recorded and live filming, video editing, and process mapping—to name a few. For the past 14 months, Nadbornik has been performing these duties—and many more—to enable the launch and execution of the Sports Product Management online program, the first online program for the University of Oregon.

On March 18, 2020, to stem the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the State of Oregon released an executive order suspending in-person instructional activities at higher education institutions. The University of Oregon pivoted and immediately began preparing to hold spring term remotely—with only a little over a week to make it a reality.

Luckily, Nadbornik is a fantastic information technology resource and was instrumental in onboarding Lundquist College of Business and Sports Product Management faculty and students to the various platforms and processes required for spring term courses to transition to remote learning.

Not only has he played a crucial role in transitioning in-person courses to online learning, but he is also ensuring that Sports Product Management industry events are available virtually. Please join us on Thursday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. PDT for the Outdoor Industry Panel: Future Vision, or watch the recording of our past Athlete Panel: Moving the Olympics to 2021 and Its Impact.

Needless to say, it has been a very busy month, and the success of moving courses online for the university is due to the expertise of those behind the screens.

Please join us in thanking David Nadbornik for his time, expertise, and commitment to excellence.
